A young carer is someone aged 25 or under who helps look after a member of their family who is ill, disabled, or uses drugs or alcohol.
What YCC do
Young Carer’s are a group of children that have responsibilities at home to help or take care of someone who is ill or disabled. Because of these situations, the children are not able to meet or socialise or even have the same opportunities as other children to go on outings or do sports activities. The children are referred by Social Services from schools in Stevenage and North Herts and meet twice a month.
This charity is run by a manager and volunteers, they do not receive any support from the local council and rely on donations, some small grants and a lot of fundraising.
Benefits of YCC
We run fortnightly group sessions to provide a safe space where 8 to 18 year-old carers can just have fun and take a break from their caring role. The group provides support, friendship and a chance to socialise with other young carers.
We welcome referrals for children from Stevenage and North Hertfordshire.
