Julia Humberstone

Cast Representative

I had my first encounter with VE back when I was just 7. As a child I joined the cast with my parents and sisters. We would have many social events like fêtes, plant stalls, beach days, BBQs, sponsored walks and more, all to raise money for the year’s chosen charities. After leaving the stage, I helped in other ways where I could, eventually just booking tickets to support the show.

My new role in life was becoming a mum 7 times over. My self-confidence and self-esteem diminished. No matter how much my sister tried to encourage me, I could not rejoin, secretly wanting to and knowing I would have loved it. I have since become a grandma 8 times; the fun, love, and silliness this brings me in my life is awesome and keeps me young.

In 2022 I started to build my confidence back up to become a better me.
The loss in 2023 of my dad Kevin Humberstone, who had been a big part of VE over the years, made me realise life is short and if you want to do something then go for it. So in February 2023 I started singing lessons, and on March 23 I filled out the preference form and rejoined the VE family. No looking back since, I just regret for not doing it sooner.

I was nominated to take on the role of Cast & Crew representative in 2024. I absolutely love it and I can’t be doing too bad as I’ve just been re-nominated for a second year.
My main reason for doing VE is knowing that there are people, families and charities reaping the rewards of our hard work each year, when we present them with our donations at our October show.

Don’t wait! Come and join us too.
